Bottlebrush Hakea

The Hakea Francisiana

Hakea francisiana, is more commonly known as the emu tree, grass-leaf hakea or bottlebrush hakea.  It is a shrub of the genus Hakea from the Proteaceae family and is native to West and South Australia.

The long, slender blue-green foliage of the tree is dotted with bright pinky-red conical shaped flowers and it makes a wonderful feature shrub in the garden.  It’s also great to plant in repetition as a screen or windbreak.  Low maintenance and drought tolerant, it likes a nice well-drained sunny spot. It’s a perfect plant to attract the bees, nectar eating birds and butterflies into your outdoor space.
