Ficus Audrey

Ficus Benghalensis

If you’re in the market for a new type of Ficus to grow indoors, here it is – Ficus Audrey, a close relative of the fiddle leaf fig.  Ficus Audrey is much easier to grow and care for indoors and has a similar growth habit and appearance.  It has a smooth light colour trunk, and the leaves are a pleasing rounded oblong shape with very defined veining – especially on the back of the leaf.

This plant needs proper light and watering to keep it happy indoors and it also benefits from some regular pruning to help keep its size and shape looking smart.

Ficus Audrey is recognised as the national tree of India and is more commonly known as the Banyan tree.  In countries like India and Sri Lanka the banyan tree grows long aerial roots that can reach from the canopy all the way to the ground and become supportive trunks of their own.  This means that the tree can grow wider (rather than taller) over time if left unchecked.
