New Kid On The Block
The Breeze Block Revival
Finally… a brand-new modern breezeblock for our gardens! Brickworks Building Products have collaborated with one of Australia’s leading designers, Adam Goodrum to create KITE BREEZE, a contemporary reimagining of the celebrated modernist era breeze block. KITE transforms an iconic material from the past into a stunning design element for today’s urban landscapes.
Based on Adam’s design ethos and love of geometric art, the collection has a strong focus on transforming spaces through dappled light, featuring a half-inset panel that delivers an array of artistic shadows, patterns and airflow to any space. The blocks are made using terracotta clay-based technology, KITE sets a new benchmark for breezeblock manufacturing.
ARD’s Principal, Adam Robinson says he’s excited to have this stunning new breezeblock design to play with in his garden designs… “I love adding a Mid-Century feel to some of our garden designs by using breezeblocks as a playful accent and focal point – breezeblocks are perfect for screening and dividing up a space into different areas of living outdoors.”
Brickworks Building Products General Manager of International Marketing, Brett Ward says, “Brickworks is excited to be at the forefront of Australia’s renewed interest in the breeze block. The recent revival of the breeze block is more than a nod to the nostalgic era of modernism – it reflects a movement towards appreciating the design potential of the humble block.”
Goodrum’s take on the age-old breezeblock brings a fresh perspective to a trend that continues to surge in popularity. The design-led product has been crafted meticulously over two years, delivering an exclusive sculpture that is transformative, while facilitating light and natural ventilation.
Adam Goodrum says “Growing up in WA I was surrounded by houses of the fifties and sixties where breeze blocks were a prominent feature. I see them as a symbol of Australia’s love of the outdoors, and the way we embrace indoor-outoor living”.
“One of the most poetic aspects of the breezeblock is its ability to create ambience via the interplay of light and shadow. From just one single block there are an abundance of configurations, patterns and arrangements to design with, so I’m intrigued to see how architects, designers and homeowners can play with KITE to help bring their designs to life”. Goodrum says.
Designed in Australia and made in Italy, Kite Breeze is available in three colourways: White, Dune and Terracotta.
