Nature Heals

Ecopsychology

I think most of us now know that nature can do wonders for our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health on a daily basis.  This is why we are all going crazy for indoor plants, outdoor rooms, holidays and retreats in nature and natural spas all over the world are popular destinations for recharging our stressed-out selves.

We’ve recently come across an amazing place called Naropa University located in Boulder, Colarado.  Naropa is a private, non-profit, liberal arts university offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts, education, environmental studies, peace studies, psychology and religious studies.  It is a Buddhist-inspired, non-sectarian, university rooted in contemplative education that integrates Eastern wisdom studies and the arts with traditional Western scholarship.  It is said that Naropa was the birthplace of the modern mindfulness movement.

At Naropa you could do a Master of Arts degree in Ecopsychology https://www.naropa.edu/academics/masters/ecopsychology/index.php

Ecopsychology is an emerging field that is developing in recognition that human health, identity, and sanity are intimately linked to the health of the earth and must include sustainable and mutually enhancing relationships between humans and the nonhuman world.

Ecopsychology places human psychology in an ecological context, and is aimed at healing the divisions between mind and nature, humans and earth.  The central concern of ecopsychology is the physical, psychological, and spiritual health of both the human and nonhuman world and an understanding of the psychological processes that either bond us to the natural world or alienate us from it.  Ecopsychology brings psychology and ecology together to create a healing context for and new understanding of the human – nature relationship.
